Heatloss Calculation

The calculation of heartlosses is done with the following equation:

Qv= (2 * pi * lambda * (Th - Tmin)) / (ln * (D/d))

Qv Heat loss(W/m)
lambda Thermal conductivityr (W/mK)
Th Maintain temperature (°C)
Tmin Minimum ambient temperature (worst case) (°C)
ln natural logarithm
D pipe diameter with insulation (mm)
( pipe diameter + 2 x insulationthickness)
d outer pipediameter without insulation (mm)

1. Basic data

Please fill in the basic data for your calculation.

- Minimum ambient temperature (°C)
- Maintemperature (°C)
- Thermal conductivity (W/mK)
- Safety factor(%)

The default value are validated for calculations within Europe and usable upto a wind speed of 5m/s (18km/h; Beaufaut No.3).The thermal conductivity of 0,052W/mK is based on mineralwool, change this value if you want to use other insulation material, please (e.g.: PU-foam 0,028W/mK)
Please take care that you use the point instead of a comma otherweise you will see NaN as a result

Please take care to the temperature dependence of insulationmaterial (especially for hight temperatures) .

2. Pipe diameter and insulation thickness

You can choose the nominal pipediamter by using the selection box . The outer pipe diamter of this pipe will be calculated automatically.
Please fill out your wanted thickness of the insulation. One useful hint: thickness of insulation as thick as the outer pipediameter of the used pipe.
Start calculation by using the calc-button

Poweroutput of the Quintherm heating tapes at maintain temperature W/m

                                                                                                  on/off
 max 85°C/85°C

 max 150°C/200°C

 max 200°C/250°C

Choose your suitable heating tape. The power output of the tape must be higher than the heatloss
